India Green Hydrogen Roadmap: Phase 2 Launch
Government unveils Phase 2 of the National Green Hydrogen Mission with expanded incentives and electrolyser capacity targets.
The Government of India has launched Phase 2 of the National Green Hydrogen Mission, targeting 5 MMT of annual production by 2030. The phase introduces fresh production-linked incentives, port-based hydrogen hubs and a dedicated R&D corpus.
Strategic Importance
Green hydrogen is critical for decarbonising hard-to-abate sectors such as steel, fertilisers and refining. India aims to position itself as a global export hub for green hydrogen and ammonia by leveraging its renewable-energy potential.
Challenges Ahead
- High electrolyser capital costs
- Land and water requirements at scale
- Storage and transport infrastructure gaps
